Meet Marco Buijk – Commercial Director at Secure At Work
Secure At Work is growing and has tremendous potential. Partly for this reason, we have attracted additional commercial support. We are proud to announce that Marco Buijk will strengthen the Secure At Work team from February 1, 2026. Marco brings a very broad experience as IT entrepreneur, but above all a lot of energy and a large network. Who he is and what drives him? Find out in this blog.
How did you get in touch with Secure At Work?
“Kenneth van Surksum, the founder of Secure At Work, I have known him for years. In fact, I am a customer of his from other organizations.
Years ago we already had discussions we about close cooperation, but the circumstances were not good enough then. This time they are. Especially because there is a unique and promising product in which I am convinced that I can take this company to the next stage.”
Why did you choose something else?
“It is good to close something when things are going well. For me, the moment came when I could look back with pride on a wonderful and successful company that I had the privilege of building as a founder. For me, the challenge was over after that. I could leave the organization with a good feeling and start a new challenge myself. I get to ‘build’ again. That gives me energy.”
What does that manifest itself in?
That was the next logical question, “When I think about it, it has mostly to do with people work, entrepreneurship and connecting. The smile on the other side of the table is my mission. I like to add value. That is the basis for doing business with each other and establishing and building a relationship. That only works if it benefits both sides.
My relationships are the basis for my business existence. They come from different networks. In addition to my new work for Secure at Work, I also own a wine shop. I am also very active for the KNVB. As Coach Referees Professional Football and as Referee Liason Officer at UEFA, I try to contribute to the quality of arbitration.”
What is your ambition?
“In my experience, business-wise, the highest achievable thing is for your brand name to become a product name. We order SPA in a restaurant when we order water. Even though quite often you get a different brand. Other examples are Jif, labello and Luxaflex.”
“It would be great if people think of ‘Secure At Work’ when they think of Modern Workspace Maintenance and thus ask about our brand.”
Where are opportunities for Secure at Work?
“Let me first emphasize my concern that cyber threats are on the rise and the world is on fire even more often. I will take every opportunity to contribute to a fairer and safer society.”
Where do opportunities lie? Basically everywhere, but especially in organizations where the impact is high when a cyber attack or hack occurs. That is why I will focus, for example, on organizations dealing with NIS2. Think of the financial sector, the bio-tech industry, government organizations, energy companies and healthcare institutions. But especially Managed Service Providers can also do a lot with our product.
“In my experience, people should be able to do their work in an efficient and safe way. Secure At Work offers a solution to contribute to this in the most efficient way possible.
I see myself as the connecting link between our relations and the added value Secure At Work offers through its products and services. I am a bridge builder. My goal: lasting relationships that deliver value to both sides.”
